At the moment, the reputation of the brand is quite shaky, especially in the Russian Federation, so in this article we’ll look at a number of important issues:

Company info
To begin with, I would like to say that at the moment there is no information about the company on Wikipedia. This is very strange, because the monthly number of visitors to the site exceeds 30 million, according to Similarweb.
Maybe they have some kind of confrontation with Wiki, or maybe the marketing and PR department just didn’t get around to it. But not the point, you can find plenty of data about iHerb from other reputable sources.
The brand’s online presence began in 1996, when an online store based on the Yahoo site appeared. At that time only one item was sold – St. John’s wort. Nine years later, its own online site is created.
This is how the official American site iherb.com appeared. It started a system of reviews by verified customers, which attracts new customers and retains old ones to this day.
The next huge step for iHerb came in 2008, when they introduced an affiliate program.
I believe that it is the referral system that rewards users for purchases with their links or promo codes, combined with the right brand policy, quality of service, and selection of the assortment that gives online stores the opportunity to become really popular. This is exactly how Aliexpress, Amazon, and other e-commerce niche leaders were promoted.
In 2014, the iHerb app appeared, available for both Android and iOS users. The program completely replaces the website, so feel free to download it to your iPhone from the Apple Store or from Google Play, if you own a smartphone on Android.
And the last historic step that deserves our attention is the introduction in 2018 of iTested, a system for testing own brands. The iTested program ensures that a product has been tested by an independent lab and received a certificate that any customer can view. It’s hard to say how independent the lab is, but this approach to store merchandise already deserves respect.
By the way, iHerb’s own brands are now about 25. All of them represent items from different categories and directions, so you can easily find iHerb products for adults, children and even animals. In addition to testing, these products are backed by a special refund policy and additional discounts.
So here we are, walking through history to the present day. I would like to point out that at the moment the iHerb website and apps are easy to understand. The product card contains a lot of useful information to help you make your choice.
For example, the same MYPROTEIN site that we reviewed last time clearly abuses advertising banners and incomprehensible pricing policies. And despite the fact that we liked the products, making a purchase can make you nervous.
I will also mention that iHerb has 24/7 support for customers. However, it is not without its nuances. For example, the online chat works from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. by local time, and during the rest of the period support is provided by e-mail.
The site also has a chat room with an online bot that can help deal with the most popular problems.
Regional versions of iHerb

Why iHerb is banned in Russia
And let’s still discuss the issue of banning the site on the territory of the Russian Federation, because one day it may affect the residents of other countries.
iHerb began its rapid growth in Russia thanks to bloggers, opinion leaders, and joint shopping organizers. They were attracted by the benefits of the affiliate program, because on referral bonuses and discounts it is possible to earn sums which make it possible to live without worries. As for buyers, they were drawn to foreign goods, because trust in domestic manufacturers in our country is on shaky ground. Yes, and it is always interesting to try something new, something foreign.
When iHerb’s turnover increased greatly, bloggers began to advertise everything they could to make more money, and people blindly trusted their idols and bought up and consumed all kinds of dietary supplements and medications. As a result, this began to attract public attention, all the more so as the store’s range included items that were banned under Russian law.
Personally, I think it would be better to check the self-proclaimed doctors and nutritionists, who manage to mess with the minds of their audience, and people should become smarter and consult with adequate qualified professionals before taking any dietary supplements.
iHerb Reviews
In order to establish an opinion about the store, let’s turn to the reviews. I will say right away that I do not recommend reading information about iHerb on top English-language sites with reviews, where the author’s referral promo code is found, which means there is no point in speaking negatively.
So we go straight to Trustpilot and see that the store’s rating is now 3.0. That’s not too bad if you compare it to Amazon, which now has almost 2.
Going through the negatives, we understand that most of the problems are related to accounts and the integrity of the delivery. After all, parcels are shipped by international logistics companies from the States, so there are no problems. There are no complaints about the products, which is nice. Although it is possible that someone who did not fit will never be able to write a review…
Now that we’ve got the store itself sorted out, let’s move on to the products themselves. Under each of them, in the product card on the iHerb site, there are sections of questions/answers and reviews, which you can read for hours. At the same time, negative comments are not removed, so you can see exactly what previous customers didn’t like.
But again, approach any comments with a sober mind. Do not trust everything written, even if the author presents himself as minister of health or general manager of the World Health Organization. Run any information through the sieve of adequacy. For example, you can buy homeopathy and sit back and rejoice in the placebo instead of the real effect.
How to order on iHerb?
Now let’s talk about how to buy on iHerb. Like any other modern online store, registration is a couple of clicks away. You can register with your email by creating a profile, but personally, I prefer to link my Google or Facebook account to popular sites. This way you can forget about logins and passwords, but you need to keep your data safe.

To start with, I’d recommend getting in the habit of doing all your shopping online using cashback services. I’ve switched completely to Letyshops now, as they have cool support and easy withdrawal, but you can use any other one.
Specifically with iHerb it is not always advantageous to use a cashback, because it is not combined with promo codes or bonuses. But at times they make it higher, up to 10%, and then it turns out to be the biggest available discount, which is valid for all the items.

Then there are discounts and special offers from the online store iHerb.

Secondly, I recommend paying attention to the Trial section. This is a specific list of items that you can add to your cart, at a promotional price, just one item at a time. If you add 2 different items from the Try list, the most expensive one will be at full price. Similarly, if you take more than 2 pieces of the same item. All the following except the first will be full price.
And third, pay attention to the combo offer in the product card. Often the selection of related products is quite good and an additional discount is not unreasonable.
Not counting the bonuses you can pay with on iHerb, which we’ll talk about a little later, these are all available methods of saving in the online store. Sometimes bloggers talk about some secret discounts, but underneath them are referral promo codes, coupons from specific brands and discounts for holiday sales. So, nothing is secret.
What to buy on iHerb?
And so we got to the point where we’ll break down what to buy on iHerb; explore the best in each category, talk about which products have become bestsellers and of course show my top products.
I always start my browsing with the Home page. It is divided into logical blocks, which allow you to quickly assess the situation on the site.
At the top we see a menu with sorting of products by direction, brand or effect. There are also additional filters that sort products according to a certain property. For example, for vegans, dairy-free products or products that have been tested without harming animals.
Then there are the familiar Specials, Try, and Best Sellers. It’s in the bestseller section that I advise newcomers to look. Here you can see the top 10 products in each category that have been on sale over the past 24 hours. At the same time you can look at the statistics for your country or for the store as a whole.
Let’s go back to the Home page and see that there are also thought-provoking product selections. There are 7 categories in total, so let’s run through them:
- automatic recommendations for your interests;
- super deals, with a selection of items sold at a discount;
- sales trends for the last 4 hours in your country or the entire store;
- bestsellers in 24 hours;
- new goods;
- recently viewed by you;
- and a list of products sold in real time. I don’t know how true this compilation is, but it looks fascinating.
Top brands on iHerb
Now I want to mention a few of the brands that users around the world most often search for.
Solgar. One of the most popular American brands, manufacturers of dietary supplements presented on iHerb. It has a fairly wide range of products. The reviews on the products are not bad, but the price is above average.
Sambucol. American manufacturer of a number of elderberry products.
Optimum Nutrition. The most searched for vitamins and supplements are Opti-Women for women and Opti-Men for men. One of the most popular brands of sports nutrition to which there is no question. Naturally, you have to overpay for brand awareness.
Hema-Plex. A multivitamin complex from the manufacturer Natures Plus. Have not personally used it, but I doubt that it is very different from similar supplements. So, after consultation with a specialist, you can safely take it in the right amounts.
Useless goods
I’ll be sure to tell you about the products that I think are a waste of money.
The first would be Dill Water. Strongly diluted fennel extract in plain water. They often try to prescribe it to babies for colic. As Dr. Komarovsky said, it’s hard to get harm from such water, but you’ll definitely overpay for regular water.
Alkaline water. Drink normal filtered or boiled water, and do not make up any problems on the spot. This is a standard scam.
Colloidal Minerals. A hyped-up gizmo from the American quack doctor Joel Wallack. There is no scientifically proven effectiveness of colloidal minerals at the moment, so I’ll put the product on the black list.
Collagen. It is a protein that can be consumed as a supplement. Collagen’s beneficial properties on the body have been proven. Athletes are most interested in it because it strengthens cartilage, ligaments, bones, improves muscle nutrition and skin properties. But let me be honest, there is no point in overpaying for collagen in a separate form, because you can use a hydrolyzed version, which is the usual food gelatin.
Carbohydrate blocker. Drugs that block the enzymes that break down carbohydrates, so the body does not digest them and consumes fewer calories. First of all, I don’t fully understand the effectiveness of blockers. Secondly, I think that if a person cannot control the amount of carbohydrates he or she consumes, then it is definitely too early to get into pharma.
Apple pectin. I cannot say anything about its useful properties for the body, but pectins are actively used by confectioners and cooks. So there is no point in overpaying money, and if you want, buy pectin in confectionery stores or supermarket departments.
Coenzyme Q10. It is sold as a dietary supplement with a number of useful properties, but I should note that Q10 has not been approved by the American regulator FDA (Food and Drug Association) as a drug for use in any disease.
Vitamins from iHerb
Now let’s move on to the vitamins that are incredibly popular on iHerb.
D3. The most absorbable form of vitamin D. With the introduction of quarantine and the transition to the home lifestyle, there may be a deficiency, which is corrected by the use of a supplement. Still, I highly recommend taking supplements only after getting tested. Just in case there is nothing wrong with your body.
Magnesium. A macronutrient that is often taken by athletes. I don’t see anything wrong with taking it, as long as this has been discussed with the doctor.
Copper. Another micronutrient that can be taken alone or in a supplement with other vitamins, such as zinc.
B12. A vitamin most often bought by vegetarians and vegans to avoid its deficiency in the body. If you eat red meat, fish and eggs, you are probably fine with its presence. It is not a good idea to buy and take B12 without testing and counseling.
Biotin or vitamin B7. It comes in sufficient quantities for the body from food, so you should not buy it without a prescription.
Foods from iHerb
I’ll list a few items from the food category as well:
Chupa Chups. In fact, it is a brand whose name has become a household name. Chupa Chups itself is not yet available on iHerb, but other sweet lollipops are popular there, such as YumEarth, which are most often purchased for children. In fact, their composition is similar to Chupa Chups, but the dyes have been replaced with organic ones made from vegetable or fruit juice concentrate. I do not see anything wrong with these candies, and the price is quite adequate, if you compare it to the name brand.
Coconut sugar. Analogous to the sugar we are accustomed to, only made from the juice of the coconut palm. It has no proven properties of usefulness, so you can buy only for the sake of taste.
Chavanprash. A nutritional supplement native to India. It is made from amla, an Indian gooseberry, with the addition of other herbs and spices. A kind of fruit and spice jam, which is popularly attributed medicinal properties.
Manuka honey. One of the trending products among Health Educators around the world. Manuka is a honey that is harvested in New Zealand, Australia, and nearby islands. It is said that this sweetness is not only tasty, but also healthier than the honey we are accustomed to, so it is used both in food and cosmetology, and even in pharmacology. I do not see any obstacles to enjoy honey harvested by the Maori, except for its price. But that’s where everyone’s options are different.
Popular iHerb Products
There are also products that I had a hard time putting into any category, but they are also in demand
Yohimbine. Used to improve potency or to dry athletes. Not approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, and banned in the Russian Federation in one-component form.
Peruvian Maca. It is also an aphrodisiac and has a number of other effects on the human body. But almost all of the activity is attributed to the root of the plant, not the powder. There are no clinically approved preparations of maca. On iHerb, a variant from the NOW brand is popular.
Tribulus. Another aphrodisiac with an incomprehensible anabolic effect.
We go further and meet the Nettle root. It is also attributed medicinal properties for men’s health. But if there is a lot of information about the effectiveness of nettle leaves, then everything about the root is bald. So I can’t say anything. Personally, I would never buy such supplements, because it can be not only money thrown away, but also negative consequences if the drug has contraindications or side effects.
Black Walnut Leaf. A popularized dietary supplement, about which I can’t say anything yet. I see that it is sold by a large number of companies with a murky reputation in the CIS, so it is possible that the effect is greatly overestimated.
Protease. An enzyme that is used everywhere in the food industry. It is also found in cosmetology. How it affects the body when taken as a dietary supplement, I do not know.
Gotu kola, aka Centella asiatica. The plant is used in the production of medicines in Southeast Asia. I can’t say anything about the effect of the herb. The information on the web is also minimal.
Wheatgrass, aka wheat sprouts. This is young sprouted wheat, which is processed into juice or dried powder. Of course, some of the useful properties of the shoots are lost, but some effect can be achieved. It is used as a food and cosmetic supplement.
L-thyroxine. A medicine that is prescribed to treat hypothyroidism or goiter. So if your doctor has prescribed it for you, you can consult it and buy it.
There are also iHerb Beauty Boxes on sale, the manufacturer on the site is signed as Promotional Product. Currently there are 6 options available, including a set with Korean cosmetics K-Beauty Bag. The boxes allow you to get acquainted with interesting brands, while saving on the purchase of goods, because the box is always cheaper than the individual components.
In general, the most popular items are sports nutrition, supplements, vitamins, cosmetics, goodies, in the form of chocolate, candies, jams. Even some people prefer to buy tea exactly on iHerb. There are a number of other categories, which I decided not to put in this review, so that it would not be endless, such as home products or products for children, so let’s move on to the next point and talk about my personal order.
My iHerb order
In this section of the article I will talk about the ordering template on the example of one order, and a little later you can read about all the products we bought on iHerb for all time.
A total of 6 items were chosen, for a total of $46 (₴1282). At the time of checkout, there was a promo code from the store for 11%, dedicated to Cyber Monday, so it overlapped the referral code. But as you remember, it gives you the opportunity to use the cashback. So I was able to get $3.4 in my Letyshops account.
Also, one of the items was taken from the Trial section, saving about 50% of the cost.
As you can see, we used a lot of discount mechanics and so I can say with confidence that they work. And if you calculate, it turned out to save almost $16 in total. That’s not a bad result at all!
I always try to add something from the list of best seller products to my order on iHerb. These items were YumEarth organic lollipops, EOS lip balm, in forest berry flavor, and a large pack of Omega-3 from Now Foods. Also in my basket were chips with honey and Dijon mustard, from Kettle foods – I spied them on one of the YouTube bloggers and decided to taste them as well. We couldn’t get past the dried mango either. I love it, always looking for the tastiest brand, and this time I picked up iHerb’s own brand, California Gold Nutrition, to try. We used to buy their Omega-3, so there is trust in the brand. And the last item, from the same brand, but from the Try section is an assortment of healthy bars.

Shipping from iHerb
As for delivery, the choice is quite good, for any of the countries.
Specific delivery times for iHerb products are not specified, they suggest relying on average values. My package, ordered on January 25, 2021 reached Ukraine in 12 days, the postal operator was Nova Poshta International.
The minimum order amount for free delivery is different for each region. It may change depending on the exchange rate, so check it out in the shipping information. Also advise to pay attention to the amount of goods, which is not subject to additional taxes, if such a policy is in force in your country.
Note, however, that due to the dynamics of currencies, an order placed for an amount very close to the limit may also be taxable.
Another important point that some people forget. Since iHerb sells dietary supplements, not all items may be allowed to be imported into your country. So in the Russian Federation it is forbidden to import products containing: cannabis seeds, kava kava, raw seeds, raw nuts. If you are not sure if the item is legal, contact the customs of your country. It’s better than paying a fine or going to jail.
Now I will show you the unpacking of my parcel from iHerb, with brief comments on each product, so that you have an additional independent review, and end the review article on the topic of making money.
iHerb haul
I will start with the most useful – Omega 3. Fish oil is necessary for almost all people living in our regions, because we do not eat a lot of fatty fish, such as salmon. We have been drinking Omega for a long time and I can say with certainty that it is good for our hair, skin and nails. When choosing certain brands of fish oil, I recommend paying attention to the amount of EPA and DHA in a serving.
According to my calculations, among all the well-known brands, the best budget option was from the brand Now Foods, when buying a pack of 500 capsules. Despite the fact that the pack seems huge, it is enough for two people for two months, since 4 capsules per day are drunk.
Another good fish oil item that we have ordered several times is from the Sports Research brand. As with the previous option, the price of EPA and DHA per serving was very affordable, and the Omega itself had a positive effect on the body. That said, the serving is only 1 capsule a day, which is convenient for those who don’t like to take a lot of vitamins at once.
Continuing the topic of supplements, I will definitely mention multivitamins. We bought several options, depending on the age category.
For people under 50 years of age, a product from Now Foods is excellent – vitamins for women EVE and multivitamins for men ADAM. We have been using them for about a year and have not noticed any negative effects. In addition, with constant use, there is no peeling of the skin, which is especially noticeable in winter.
For the 50+ age group, we specially purchased multivitamins from Nature’s Way. As with Now Foods, they have a division by gender and age. It is worth bearing in mind that the male and female vitamins are designed exclusively for the right gender, so you should not neglect this guideline. For those who do not want to drink the usual version in tablets, there are special vitamins that look like fruit jellies.
Also always purchase individual vitamins and dietary supplements, which are contained in small quantities in multivitamins. As said before, I recommend consulting a doctor and taking tests, so that you can monitor your body correctly and choose supplements accurately. So we additionally take Zinc, vitamin D3, chondroprotectors (glucosamine, chondroitin, MSM) and rarely we use Melatonin when our sleep patterns are severely disrupted.
The next product came just in time for the coldest days of winter – a lip balm from the brand EOS. We chose the flavor for a long time and decided to go with wild berry. Fantastic sweet and sour aroma and taste of the balm can not fail to please.
As for the properties of the hygienic product, all was also good. In moderate humidity and temperatures down to -20°, the lipstick kept my lips from drying out and lasted the entire time we were outside, up to 4 hours. I also liked the fact that the balm doesn’t just grease my lips, but kind of moisturizes them. We were happy with our purchase, especially since it was cheaper on iHerb than in local stores.
Let’s move on to the goodies. First up will be the organic YumEarth lollipops, which are one of the most popular products on iHerb. Over 60,000 reviews have been written on them! We decided to get an assortment to try out. There are 14 candies in total, in 4 different flavors: pomegranate, peach, strawberry, and cherry.
All of the options were sweet and sour, with a distinctly fruity flavor. The strawberry and peach reminded me of jam or jelly, the cherry had an aroma and taste of amaretto, but the pomegranate was very similar to a classic cherry to me.
I very rarely eat lollipops because I don’t like the “cheesy” flavor and sweetness, but I was pleased with these candies, especially the pomegranate. I would also note that the candy stick is paper, not plastic, so the kids can’t hurt their teeth if they chew on it.
The item I chose among the Trial section was an assortment of snack bars from the manufacturer California Gold Nutrition. I wouldn’t buy them at full price, but with the 50% discount, it’s just right. I will say right off the bat that I eat these bars, not just as a candy, but on purpose I consume them before I go to the gym. Although sometimes you can eat them just for tea or coffee. They contain both fast and slow carbohydrates, so they perfectly replenish the glucose in the blood, and thus add fuel to the energy furnace.
There are a total of 12 bars, 40 grams each. Since it’s an assortment, there’s an opportunity to try six flavors at once. I’ll run through each of them briefly:
- granola bars with wild blueberries and almonds. Dense granola with berries. For some reason the taste reminded me of dates. Moderately sweet and absolutely not sour version of a snack.
- granola bars with cranberries and almonds. My leader among the flavors. The moderate sweetness and sourness of the berries, combined with nuts and cereal – it’s very tasty. I would definitely order more snacks like this.
- bars with dark chocolate, nuts, and sea salt. Although salt is in almost all flavors, here it is felt the most. It reminds me of salted caramel with the addition of nuts.
- granola bars with coconut and almonds. This flavor reminded me of children’s breakfast, which in addition to cereal, had a lot of different nuts. Coconut lovers will obviously appreciate this option.
- granola bars with mocha and nuts. As the name implies, there is coffee in the mix, so the snack has a slight coffee bitterness.
- peanut bars with pieces of dark chocolate. If you’ve ever had grillaj candy, this is something very close to it. It’s a pretty solid base of nuts, with flecks of small pieces of moderately bitter chocolate.
To summarize, I liked the berry granola better than the nut bars. But as they say, you can’t argue about taste, so you can also take the assortment, and decide on the best option personally.
This next item is dried mango from California Gold Nutrition. I love dried fruits that are made without added sugar because they maximize the flavor of the fruit and berries rather than the artificial sweetness. That’s exactly what this mango is: it’s moderately sweet, with an organic aroma and flavor. The pieces are not very large, so there is no need to further crush the dried fruit. The larger the piece of mango, the more pronounced flavor it has, as there is little moisture left inside. All in all, a great sweet snack for a healthy diet or for those who appreciate natural sweetness.
The last item on the list is Kettle Foods potato chips. There are about 10 flavors available on the website. I decided on the Dijon mustard and honey. The chips arrived intact and unscathed. They are actually a little denser than classic chips, so they are easier to transport. As far as flavors go, it’s all very interesting. The chips are sweet and salty at the same time, while also having a very slight acidic note. Our family was all satisfied after tasting this product. It will be interesting to order the other flavors available as well.
How to earn on iHerb?
At the end, as promised, I will tell you how to make money on iHerb. Several options have already been mentioned before, but it is still worth discussing them separately, in the right way.
The first, and easiest, thing that appeared in our area is the resale of products from iHerb. This is especially true for remote corners, where there is no delivery from the top online stores, and there is very little offline representation. If you carefully examine the range of small stores and bulletin boards, you can find a large number of branded products from iHerb.
The second way is to organize group buying. Most people are afraid to order from abroad, or they simply don’t benefit from free shipping, and it is expensive with paid shipping. Then you can make a purchase through the organizer of joint purchases. This person collects several orders from different people, and then gives them packages in your city or sends them to a local postal operator.
Depending on the approach, earnings are derived from fees for their services, additional discounts on promo codes, the sale of related gifts.
The third way, which is both salvation and woe, is the referral program.
